How We Go About It : WE ACT ON OUR PROMISE
Natural ~ Ethical ~ Minimizing Waste
The textile industry is the second most polluting industry in the world and we at Madhuu are committed to doing everything we can to reverse this trend by
Going Natural ~
Khadi Cotton; Kosa Tassar Silk; Nettle; Pure wool (angora, yak and lamb)
New range of sustainable fabrics – Bamboo, Banana, Pineapple, Hemp, Eucalyptus, and Aloe Vera
b) Use of natural vegetable dyes in at least 60% of all fabric used:
These sustainable fabrics are natural hypoallergenic and have unique anti-bacterial and odour resistant properties. Alongside, natural fibres are easy biodegradable and recyclable. In contrast, synthetic fabrics are made from chemicals using industrial processes that emit chemical wastes, are far more energy dependent, emit higher volumes greenhouse gasses, and are far harder to recycle and decomposed Similarly, vegetable dyes are completely devoid of toxic chemical processes and are highly skin friendly.
Ethical ~
Ethically procure Raw Materials
Fair wages for urban labour;
Creating rural livelihoods;
Capacity Building; and
Securing complex indigenous skills
by carefully selected weaving clusters across rural India from the states of Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Minimizing Waste ~ Upcycling
At Madhuu we use all the tailoring waste by adding value to them in our product range itself like in dupattas. We also take old blessed cloths (Rumala Sahibs) which have been discarded from Gurudwaras for use in our sacred adornments –Yantras and in Torans (Doorway hangings).
Apart from this, we are collecting old clothes to recycle them into our Madhuu Upcycled range of merchandise. In this way, we strive to circulate discarded cloth for further use and add value through new product developments.
